The Final NE1 Newsletter
| It's three months since NE1
and
a good time to reflect on such a memorable week. The weather couldn't
have been better for an outdoor event - the games and crafts wouldn't
have been quite the same in wet, cold and windy conditions! Over three
hundred children and young people had a wonderful time, supported by 30
volunteers from NE1 and more than 70 volunteers from the Guisborough
churches. Arriving at the King George V playing fields each morning was
a bit daunting as the setting up of the barriers, a stage, sound
system, marquees and the sporting areas had to be carried out
each day . . . but the willing volunteers, ably supported by the Army
Cadets and the North Guisborough Community Forum, soon turned the bare
field into a marvellous arena – truly a 'theatre of dreams' for
all those who had gotten hold of God's vision over the year
of
preparation! The 'Getting to Know You Barbecue' in St Nicholas Hall on
the Monday evening was a great way to start the week; the food was
marvellous, prepared by the team who provided the NE1 delegates with
food throughout the week. The week finished with pizzas for everyone
involved, 500 pizzas in total! The Guisborough churches
also supported NE1 by sending 45 young volunteers to the Herrington
Country Park camp, from where the delegates went to serve other parts
of the North East. To recap : |
NrGzone
was a holiday club for children aged 5 – 11 years. Children were
allocated to a Super Hero team, headed by a fully costumed Superman, Mr
Incredible, Batman and Spiderman! Each day there were games, crafts,
inluding drum making, music, singing and a bouncy castle. The
theme tune “Our God is a Great Big God . . .” lingers in
the memory!

 | N2Gr8
was a youth event for young people aged 12 to 17 years.
Activities included sports (football, tennis, basketball, volleyball
and swimming), fun games, bouncy castles and various crafts. Guests
from NE1 included a Christian rap and DJ duo, a girl band and a
basketball trickster. |
| NrGise
was an environmental project with litter picking, bat-box making, the
design of a 'Guisborough themed' park bench and the landscaping of a
flower bed in front of Howlbeck shops. |
 |
In
addition to the daytime events, there was a Christian Concert in St
Nicholas Church Hall on the Thursday evening with most of the N2Gr8
young people coming along to listen to bands D2 and Good Question and
evangelist Dave Newton. On the Friday evening, a coach full
of
young people went to the final NE1 event at Herrington Country Park,
where they joined up with 5000 other young people from across the North
East.
The financial provision all came together with less than a week to go
to the start of the event! The overall cost for NE1, including the
materials for landscaping, was £13850. Approximately £5000
of this came from the Churches Together service offering, coffee
mornings and other donations; the remainder came from grants awarded to
the North Guisborough Community Forum.
NE1 has been a wonderful opportunity for the churches to build bridges
into the local community. Various possibilities for follow-up are being
considered, with The Bridge acting as a central focus through GuizKidz
and co-ordination of other youth activities. It was such a
blessing to see so many christians from across the churches working
together and establishing friendships which will form a strong basis
for closer links in the future. Finally, thankyou for all of your
support, whether you were a volunteer, an NE1 delegate, gave generously
or spent time with the Lord in prayer over NE1.
“Grace
to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.”
